The city council replaces all public lighting in the municipality with LED technology with remote management

Work has been done on the 1,961 existing lights in the municipality thanks to a subsidy of €1,581,543.08 from FEDER funds

The Santiago del Teide City Council has replaced all of the municipality's outdoor public lighting with LED technology with remote management thanks to a subsidy received from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge within the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF) for an amount of €1,581,543.08, that is, close to 85% of the total subsidy that had been requested.

In this sense, action has been taken on the 1,961 existing luminaires, of which 164 were eliminated and new units will be added to comply with current regulations. 1,597 were replaced with new LED technology and a GPRS system was installed in the 200 luminaires that were not replaced.

Regarding the control panels, from a total of 26 initial panels, some of them were reunified, increasing to 28. 22 of them were replaced with new ones and a remote management system was installed. With this action, the power was reduced from 208 kW to 81.8 kW and an estimated energy saving of 61% has been achieved.

This is a subsidy for unique projects by local entities that promote the transition to a low-carbon economy within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program for sustainable growth 2014-2020.

Emilio Navarro indicates that "by combining LED technology with a comprehensive management system, the municipality acquires total control over its outdoor lighting, obtaining significant energy and economic savings given their longer useful life, lower maintenance costs as well as tons of "CO2 that stops being emitted into the atmosphere. It is a clear commitment by the municipality to digitalization and energy efficiency."
