The city council is organizing the 19th edition of the barter performance "Al Paso de la Cumbre" (At the Summit).
The activity will take place on June 29th and aims to commemorate the most ancient form of "trade" between people from different municipalities.
The Santiago del Teide City Council, in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council through the Tenerife Rural Foundation and the municipalities of Garachico and El Tanque, will hold the 19th edition of the barter performance called "Al Paso de la Cumbre" (At the Summit).
As in previous editions, the participation of a large number of people dressed in the costumes worn by the peasantry of that era is expected, including chieftains, goatherds, witches, pig herders, milkmaids, and bakers. To this end, household goods, farming implements, and other items used in the past are incorporated into the performance.
It should be noted that the activity's purpose is to pay tribute to the generations of Canarians who traveled the roads and paths of the archipelago in search of a livelihood; therefore, one of its fundamental objectives is to revalue the products that were part of the exchange system and which influenced the social relations established as a result of these commercial transactions.
In this regard, those who wish to enjoy the reenactment of the product exchange that took place in the area not so many years ago can do so at the various meeting points set up for the occasion:
- 10:00 a.m. in San Francisco de La Montañeta.
- 11:30 a.m. in San José de Los Llanos.
- 1:30 p.m. in the public square of Santiago del Teide, after which attendees can enjoy a performance by the Parranderos de Tágara group.
