Increased social spending, increased educational funding, greater investment, and improved public services are the cornerstones of the 2026 budget.
The consolidated budget was initially approved in plenary session today, Thursday, December 18.
The Santiago del Teide City Council initially approved the consolidated budget in plenary session today, totaling €20,974,449.86. This represents an 11.53% increase compared to the previous fiscal year of 2025 and establishes a series of guiding principles for government action, such as effectiveness, efficiency, austerity, and transparency, while maintaining sound municipal finances and no financial debt.
For Emilio Navarro, Mayor of Santiago del Teide, “the 2026 budget is designed to place residents at the heart of municipal policy, addressing their diverse needs while responding to their demands. This budget is the product of rigorous work, resulting in balanced income and expenditure statements based on the optimization of municipal resources and adjustments applied to spending items that can be reduced without affecting the provision of essential public services. In short, it is a responsible, credible, and sound budget that allows us to face any possible economic scenario that 2026 may bring.
The 2026 budget aims to incorporate reactivation measures, and to achieve this, it is necessary to increase funding in essential areas such as community welfare, environmental protection and improvement, job creation, social assistance and promotion, as well as commerce and tourism promotion, while also ensuring that the other departments continue to provide dynamism and support.” Revitalizing the municipality.
In this regard, there is a significant increase in social spending, specifically 7% more than in 2025, to consolidate one of the most important goals for this local government: “Social Justice.” This will be achieved through municipal policies that promote the inclusion of the most vulnerable people and ensure the equitable distribution of resources.
Another area that sees a considerable increase in investment is education, 3% more than in 2025. This will increase aid and subsidies for our students, especially those who have to study outside the municipality.
Strengthening public services remains a key focus of this budget, as does the rehabilitation and maintenance of our community environment. This includes improving and organizing municipal infrastructure, as well as cleaning green spaces, creating a more welcoming, cleaner, and greener municipality with well-maintained parks and gardens, better lighting, and spaces reserved for people.
One final aspect that plays an important role in any budget is... This is the investment that in the case of Santiago del Teide increases by 10.13% to guarantee the continuity of execution with respect to the investments started in the current year 2025 and to execute new investments, among which the electrical installation in municipal schools, the La Vigilia Sports Pavilion, the Tamaimo Funeral Home, the asphalt plan, investments in land and improvement of the La Hondura tennis court stand out.
