Santiago del Teide Extends Hospitality Hours to Boost Local Economy During the World Cup
The Santiago del Teide City Council has approved an exceptional and temporary extension of closing times for hospitality and restaurant establishments in the municipality due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The measure will allow bars, cafes, restaurants, and similar establishments to extend their usual closing time by up to two hours on match days, with the aim of facilitating viewing of the games and contributing to the economic activity of the municipality.
The Mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, emphasized that “the World Cup is one of the most important sporting events on the planet and represents an opportunity to generate economic activity, support our businesses, and offer a wider range of leisure options to both residents and visitors.”
The decision reflects the general interest in boosting commercial and tourist activity during a period of high visitor influx, particularly benefiting a sector that is one of the main economic drivers of the municipality. The extended opening hours will be exceptional and subject to strict compliance with current regulations regarding noise pollution, public order, safety, capacity limits, and use of public space.
The City Council is calling on business owners, employees, and customers to act responsibly and ensure that everyone enjoys this major sporting event while respecting residents' right to rest and peaceful coexistence.
With this initiative, the Santiago del Teide City Council reaffirms its commitment to the local business community, promoting measures that contribute to economic growth, job creation, and the strengthening of the municipality's tourism and commercial offerings.
