The city council is opening the application period for assistance with the payment of property tax (IBI) bills until October 30th.
Residents who can prove they are pensioners, the long-term unemployed, people with dependent relatives with disabilities, and victims of gender-based violence may apply for this application.
The Santiago del Teide City Council has approved the granting of social and individual assistance on an open-access basis to residents who can prove they are pensioners, the long-term unemployed, people with dependent relatives with disabilities, or victims of gender-based violence who can prove this status through a court ruling or restraining order. This assistance will help with their primary housing expenses related to the payment of property tax (IBI) for the 2025 fiscal year. The council has allocated a budget of €30,000 for this application period.
At the city council, we are aware of the situation faced by many families in the municipality. Therefore, the purpose of this subsidy is to alleviate the financial difficulties faced by the most vulnerable population groups in Santiago del Teide and those families who lack or have limited resources to cope with daily life and the payment of their taxes. This is also necessary to cover the increase in taxes passed on through the general collective valuation procedure that came into effect on January 1, 2006, that is, the revision of the property tax (IBI) cadastral values, which represents an impossible financial effort.
The deadline for submitting applications will end on October 30th, and the requirements to receive this benefit include, among others, the following:
* The beneficiary must be registered as a resident of the municipality of the Historic Town of Santiago del Teide, and must have lived in the home for which they requested the subsidy for at least one year. Applicants who are currently in a nursing home and whose primary residence is unoccupied also meet this requirement.
* They must belong to one of the groups mentioned above.
* They must be the owner, usufructuary, or holder of a surface right over the residence where they normally reside, provided it is located within the municipality of Santiago del Teide, and they must also be listed as the person liable for payment on the property tax bill for said residence.
* The total income of the family unit must not exceed the limits indicated in the application terms and conditions.
* The beneficiary and their family members who live with them must own more than two homes, provided they do not receive any rental income. Likewise, those who own property or family members who own real estate through legal entities will not be eligible.
The amount to be received by each beneficiary will be equivalent to 90% of the corresponding year's property tax bill. For these purposes, the primary residence is defined as the residence where the beneficiary and their family are registered.
The application can be submitted online through the municipal website, as well as in person by appointment by calling 922-86-31-27, ext. 119-201.
