The city council presented the 5th “Doña Concepción García Suárez 2025” awards on International Women's Day
These awards seek to recognise those people or entities that promote real equality between men and women
Last Saturday, March 8, coinciding with the celebration of International Women's Day, the awards for the 5th edition of the “Doña Concepción García Suárez” Awards were presented, the award ceremony of which took place at the Landmar Costa Los Gigantes Hotel.
Thus, during the course of the event, the awards were presented to the following winners:
Award in the “Women and Social Initiative” category, for the Carrera por la Vida Association.
This is a foundation that provides its service to women affected by breast cancer and their families through physical and psychological health care services, assistance support through the delivery of therapeutic material and also with training and information forums with professionals and with the creation of spaces for meeting and coexistence among equals.
Award in the “Women and Sport” category for referee Marta Huerta de Aza.
The promotion of Marta Huerta de Aza as main referee to the Second Division has been the main reason why the Palencia native, who lives in Tenerife, has been recognised for her career, sporting merit or most outstanding work in the field of sport and equality. She has been the first woman to referee a professional men's category match as main referee. This milestone, which has meant the opening of a new door towards equality in this sport, represents a more than deserved reward for a long professional career, which is about to turn twenty years old.
It is worth mentioning that the event included a musical performance by the Cuban artist Lucrecia and that, as in the previous edition, the award given to the winners consisted of a unique handcrafted piece made by the users of the San Juan Association, highlighting that for this a mulberry wood base was made as well as the use of wool from sheep that they have on their own farm and whose painting represents the "Tara", symbol of the Canarian woman.
