The Mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, accompanied by the Councilor for the Environment, Luz Goretti Gorrín and municipal technicians and the winning company, recently signed the reception of the different works collected within the project for the adaptation of elements of cultural interest : Ecotur Route, which are included in the MAC 2014-2020 (Interreg) program and promoted by the European Union and whose objective has been to enhance the natural and ethnographic heritage of the municipality.
In this sense, the objective of the same has been the conservation, rehabilitation and enhancement of the natural and landscape heritage, through the renewal and diversification of tourism activity, attending to emerging tourism trends and, also, the creation of the Red Transnational of Municipalities ECO-TUR to establish a joint strategy and methodology for the promotion of ecotourism and active tourism.
The Ecotur-Santiago del Teide route arises as part of the development of the ECOTURMAC project. The interventions assigned to this project have had a budget of €21,679.50 and have been carried out in different locations consisting of the maintenance, conservation, reform and restoration of the Tierras Viejas path, which will allow a circular route in the vicinity of Risco Blanco, from the Fuente de Tenerguera and Manantial complex, as well as the recovery of heritage and ethnographic assets from the area of La Vera in Tamaimo, which has an important set of ethnographic elements such as threshing floors, cisterns, ovens, etc., among other places.
The purpose of implementing this project is to make Santiago del Teide the first ECOTOURISM municipality in Tenerife, this seal being a distinctive that allows us to approach a sustainable tourism model and preservation of natural and cultural values.
The actions of this project have reached the entire network of municipal trails, thus ensuring that tourists staying in coastal towns can reach the middle and upper areas of Santiago del Mount Teide.
