The mayor brings a motion to the plenary session demanding the urgent implementation of the TF-82 road safety project as it passes through La Vetita.

This road has presented a clear risk to road safety for years.

The mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, recently brought a motion to the plenary session of the municipal council urging the Tenerife Island Council, and in particular the Roads Department, to immediately proceed with drafting the road safety project for the TF-82 highway as it passes through the village of La Vetita.

The initiative responds to a clear risk to road safety that has existed for years and has been repeatedly pointed out by both local residents and public officials.

As a result of these efforts, the Island Budgets of 2023 and again in 2024 included an allocation for drafting the project to improve the safety of this section. However, the drafting of the project never even began, and the allocated budget for this purpose was even lost.

Recent events on this section of the TF-82 have once again highlighted that this is a real, documented risk, one that has been warned about for years, and the lack of action has been exposed once more.

The city council emphasizes that the current situation cannot tolerate any further delays or administrative postponements, as there is sufficient technical, budgetary, and institutional basis for the Tenerife Island Council's Roads Department to initiate action immediately.

The motion approved by the City Council also requests that the drafting of the project be expedited and that, once completed, the necessary budget allocation for its implementation be prioritized.

Mayor Emilio Navarro reiterated that "this is not a new complaint or a political issue, but a real road safety problem that has been warned about for years and requires an immediate response from the Island Council." In this regard, he stressed that "there is sufficient technical, budgetary and institutional precedent for the project to be drafted without further delay."
