Santiago del Teide, the first Canarian municipality to implement an action plan against violence against minors in the sports and leisure field

This action plan contemplates the training and qualification of the consistory staff who regularly work with minors in the municipality, among other measures

Recently, the City Council of the Historic Village of Santiago del Teide presented its new "Action Plan against Juvenile Violence in the Sports and Leisure Field", constituting us as the first municipality in the entire Canary Islands to implement it and whose action protocol is intended for the early detection and intervention of the administration in the face of possible situations of violence on childhood and adolescence that arise in the sports and leisure field.

The aforementioned plan, which has been developed by the Canarian Foundation for Training and Patronage (Fumcafym), consists of a document that includes the guidelines for action that must be observed in a situation in which there are suspicions or evidence of violence or mistreatment of children or adolescents.

To carry out this task, and as established by the regulations, the consistory is promoting the training of staff, professionals and volunteers of the municipality who work regularly with minors, providing them with training in terms of the code of conduct, protocols and mechanisms aimed at the creation of a safe, good and inclusive environment for all children, thus respecting the rights of the minor and promoting a physical, psychological and social protective environment, including the digital environment.

For the mayor, Emilio Navarro, "the integral protection of minors in all its areas must always be a responsibility of society and it is the task of the administrations to provide tools and protocols always aimed at the absolute respect of the rights of minors, hence our action protocol is aimed at raising awareness of families, our professionals, organisations and the population in general about the mechanisms of prevention and action in the face of cases of violence or abuse in children and adolescents."
