The mayor meets with the Coastal Authority to expedite the necessary permits for the Puerto de Santiago coastline improvement project.
Work will be carried out on Puerto de Santiago beach, Charco Los Chochos, the natural pool on Isla Cangrejo, the Las Bajas area, and its surroundings.
Mayor Emilio Navarro met with the Director General of Coastal Affairs, Antonio Manuel Acosta, to continue promoting and expediting the necessary permits to develop the project for the improvement and enhancement of the Puerto de Santiago coastline.
The basic and detailed design plans, pending the necessary permits and authorizations from the Coastal Authority, have already been awarded. The project's scope of action, to be carried out in different phases, includes Puerto de Santiago beach, Charco Los Chochos, the natural pool on Isla Cangrejo, the Las Bajas area, and its surroundings.
Phase 1 aims to connect the Paseo de La Hondura promenade with the pedestrian section of Puerto Santiago beach by implementing a terraced landscaping treatment of the existing natural slope on the beach. Furthermore, the plan is to pedestrianize the final section of Agustín León Avenue up to La Sirena Street and connect the existing Agustín León Square with the beach parking area via a path to be built into the natural slope.
In Phase 2, the suspended sewer network on the natural slope will be upgraded and/or replaced, integrating it with the natural environment. A walkway will be installed above the sewer network, and the beach will be connected to the Los Chochos pool and its surroundings.
In Phase 3, the access road to the natural pool entrance will be improved, and sunbathing areas will be created using easily removable materials and elements.
In Phase 4, the access path to the various bathing areas will be improved, and platforms will be created to facilitate access to the pool from both the access path and the different bathing areas. Sunbathing areas will also be added.
The area of action represents a surface of approximately 7,053.75m², and includes the environmental and landscape rehabilitation and the improvement of the accessibility of this coastal area to turn it into a green lung of the area.
