On March 8, the prizes were awarded to the winners of the 2nd edition of the "Doña Concepción García Suárez 2021" Awards, whose award ceremony was held at La Casona del Patio coinciding with the celebration of International Women's Day. .
In said act, Beatriz Barrera Vera, Special Deputy for Equality between Women and Men and Gender Violence of the Diputación del Común was present; the Councilor for Equality, María José García; the Councilor for Works and Services, Guillermo Évora; the Councilor for Human Resources, Alexandra León; the Councilor for Tourism, Luz Goretti Gorrín and, finally, the Councilor for Sports, Juan Carlos González.
Thus, María José García, in the presence of all those present, proceeded to present the award to the hip-hop singer, composer and rapper of "Free Style" Sara Socas, for her candidacy as "Best Socio-cultural Initiative or Deportiva”, thus acknowledging her perseverance and effort to stand out in an attractive social environment for young people, as is the case of rap, which since its inception has been traditionally masculinized, always advocating raising awareness through her songs of the feminist theme and Gender equality.
Finally, the Honorary Distinctions went to the sommeliers and room managers of the Restaurant El Rincón de Juan Carlos, María José Plasencia and Raquel Navarro, thus acknowledging the commitment of both, daily, in a field traditionally occupied by men, where they have known to stand out for their professionalism and good work as room managers and sommeliers of one of the restaurants with a Michelin Star in the Canary Islands.
Likewise, it is worth mentioning that, as in the previous edition, the present awarded to each of the awardees consisted of a unique handcrafted piece made by the users of the San Juan Association, highlighting that for it there was the elaboration of a mulberry wood base as well as the use of wool from sheep that they have on their own farm and whose painting represents the "Tara", a symbol of Canarian women.
Finally, through the development of the "Doña Concepción García Suárez" Awards, the City Council seeks to create an annual recognition that serves to promote gender equality, as well as public recognition of those people and entities from Santiago del Teide that develop activities that promote the elimination of discriminatory conditions and attitudes based on sex in order to achieve the non-sexist construction of knowledge.
