Santiago del Teide will be the epicenter of Canarian gastronomy on September 17 

 

The municipality will host the 7th Regional Contest of Cooks and Pastry Chefs of the Canary Islands 2024

 

Mayor Emilio Navarro presented during the morning of today, Monday, September 9, the 7th Regional Contest of Cooks and Pastry Chefs of the Canary Islands 2024, which will be held in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, specifically, at the Chinyero Visitor Center on September 17. bringing together the best culinary talents of the Canary Islands there.

 

In addition to the mayor, the Councilor for Commerce, Krysten Martín, the Councilor for Commerce, Germán Jiménez, and the president of Acyre Canarias, Pablo Pastor, were present. This contest is organized by the City Council of the Historical Village of Santiago del Teide and ACYRE Canarias, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce of the Island Council of Tenerife and Tourism of Tenerife.

 

Emilio Navarro pointed out that “Santiago del Teide in recent years has made a qualitative and quantitative leap from a gastronomic point of view, showing the best of its gastronomy and making the municipality's chefs known in multiple competitions under the Santiago del Teide Gastro brand. Lovers who have made a name for themselves within regional and national gastronomy. Therefore, having an event of this magnitude held in our municipality is a success for all the people who have promoted local gastronomy from all areas.” Six finalists will participate in the contest in the cooking category and another six in the pastry category, arriving from different parts of the Canary Islands who will compete to win the first prize that will give them access to participate in the national contest to be held in Cantabria. Regarding the development of the contest, cooking participants must create their recipes using, on the one hand, seasonal tuna and goat meat. The recipes will be free, allowing each cook to demonstrate their creativity and culinary skills. For their part, the pastry chefs will have the challenge of making a dessert with tropical fruits from the island, honey and almonds from Santiago del Teide. In addition to the contest, this culinary day will feature different workshops, presentations and tastings open to the public, given by important national and international leaders in the field of cuisine and innovation, among whom is our local chef Ronny Reina, from the La Quinta Restaurant, as well as Mario Rodríguez, sommelier from the Pancho Restaurant.
