New participatory success in the celebration of the 17th edition of the ethnographic activity “Al Paso de la Cumbre”
It had more than 150 extras who traveled different paths staging the traditional barter.
The ethnographic rescue activity “Al Paso de la Cumbre” once again successfully recalled the traditional barter in the celebration of its 17th edition, which took place last Sunday, June 30, and featured more than 150 extras who, dressed in the traditional clothing of yesteryear, they traveled different trails in San Francisco de La Montañeta, San José de Los Llanos and Santiago del Teide to stage the ancient barter system that was carried out on the island's roads until the mid-20th century.
This activity, whose “costumbrismo and humor” is not lacking in each of its editions, was organized by the Santiago del Teide City Council in collaboration with the El Tanque and Garachico City Councils and the Tenerife Cabildo through the Tenerife Rural Foundation.
Regarding its historical context, it is an ethnographic rescue activity that has its reason for being in homage to the Canarian generations that traveled the roads and paths of the archipelago looking for family sustenance.
Thus, on this occasion there was the participation of more than 100 people who, arriving from different points of the island and dressed in the typical clothing of the time, traveled the paths to the summit with numerous utensils, implements, materials, etc. that were used to carry out all this commercial exchange work of the time; with the participation, among others, of the Montañeros Uzapa Cultural Association; Rum Party of the EMF of Arona, the Las Brujas Collective, private residents of Santiago del Teide, Guía de Isora and San Juan del Reparo, the Association Rescuing Traditions of San Juan de La Rambla, the Ethnographic Classroom of Garachico, the Workshops of Dance of Santiago del Teide and the Senior Theater Group of Santiago del Teide.
